A little 70s nostalgia, with a tropical twist. 🌿🧡
This stained glass Monstera leaf combines one of my favourite botanical shapes with the warm, bold colours of the 1970s. Instead of traditional leafy greens, I’ve used blocks of vibrant teal, burnt orange, smoky brown and soft pale yellow to give this Monstera a completely retro makeover.
The flowing sections of colour follow the natural shape and cut-outs of the leaf, while the dark solder lines give it that strong graphic quality I love in retro design.
Hung in a sunny window, the colours and textures of the glass really come alive, casting beautiful patches of coloured and refracted light around the room as the sunlight changes throughout the day. ✨
Monstera plants have a bit of nostalgia for me too. Growing up, my mum always had them amongst her huge collection of houseplants, with a whole corner of our living room filled with greenery and even a green spotlight shining over them — very 70s/80s! 😂 Years later she gifted me one of her plants, which is now happily taking over my own living room. So naturally, it had to make its way into stained glass too. 💚
Each piece is handmade by me in my Aberdeen studio using the traditional Tiffany copper foil method. Every individual piece of glass is cut, shaped, foiled and soldered by hand.
Part of The Glassy Chick Retro Collection — stained glass inspired by the colour, curves and playful design of the 60s and 70s.
